WordPress Development/Engineering Best Practices

Webb Instruments Perfected to Microscopic Levels

One of the questions that I get asked a lot during talks, workshops, or online workshops is:

“Does WordPress have any Development/Engineering Best Practices?”

Now, I happen to already know the answer to this, and I was given the opportunity to ask this question at WordCamp Europe 2019 in Athens.

Matías’ answer is a good one. In short, he doesn’t think an open-source project should have a best practices handbook, because it could stifle creativity. I agree with him on that score.

The closest we have are all the handbooks on the WordPress Developer Resources site.

If you’re developing with WordPress, I highly recommend checking them out, as they contain a wealth of useful information.

However, if you’re looking for more opinionated best practices during development, (or if I shared this post with you after you asked me this question) here are 4 resources I recommend you add to your reading list.
